Image splitting guides

Short, practical walkthroughs for the most common jobs.

Slice a long email design for your email builder

  1. Export the whole email from your design tool as one PNG or JPEG. Most emails are 600–640 px wide; exporting at twice that keeps images sharp on high-resolution screens.
  2. Open the image splitter and add the file.
  3. Under Presets and saved layouts, apply a starting layout such as Header, body, footer, or set the number of rows in the Grid panel.
  4. Drag each line to the gap between sections. Avoid cutting through text or buttons. For exact edges, type the position in pixels.
  5. Need two blocks side by side? Click that row and split only that tile into 2 columns.
  6. In Download, set the file name prefix (it starts as your file's name), choose JPEG or PNG, and click Download all as ZIP.
  7. Upload the pieces to your email builder as image blocks, in file order, and add alt text and links to each.

The tool prepares files only: it doesn't host images or publish campaigns. See the email image splitter page for more tips.

Make a 3 × 3 grid for social media

  1. Start with a square image, or crop it to a square first in your photo editor.
  2. In the Grid panel set Rows to 3 and Columns to 3, then click Apply grid.
  3. Download as separate files. They are numbered in reading order (1a, 1b, 1c, 2a …). Most profile grids show the newest post first, so post them in reverse order.

Extract product images with crops

  1. Switch to Crops and drag a rectangle around each product. Crops may overlap.
  2. Adjust with the handles, the arrow keys (1 px; 10 px with Shift), or by typing X, Y, width and height.
  3. Use Move earlier / later to set the order, then download. When only crops are drawn, the whole image is left out automatically, and you can add it back with one click.

Reuse the same layout every week

  1. Once your lines are right, type a name under Your layouts and click Save current layout. It is saved in this browser only, without the image.
  2. Next time, open the new design and click Apply. If the new image is a different size, the layout is scaled to fit; check the lines before downloading.
  3. Use Download on a saved layout to get a small layout file you can import on another computer or share with a teammate.

Choose PNG, JPEG or WebP

Quality never changes the pixel size. The real size of each file is shown after it has been created.

Understand the file names

Files are named prefix_number_position, for example spring-sale_003_2a-1.png. The number keeps the files in order. The position says where the piece sits:

You split…Pieces are named
the image into 3 rows1, 2, 3
row 2 into 2 columns2a, 2b
2a into 2 rows2a-1, 2a-2
the image into a 2 × 3 grid1a … 1c, 2a … 2c
cropscrop1, crop2, …

Prefer plain numbers? Choose Number only under File names in the Download panel.
