Check each result, then download one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Tips for the cleanest cut-out

The AI looks for the main subject: people, products, animals and objects. It works best when the subject is clear and in focus and stands out from the background. A plain or blurred background gives the cleanest edges.

When the background has almost the same colour as the subject (a light blue shirt against a light blue wall, for example), small patches may stay next to the edges. Move Removal strength towards Remove more and run it again: it takes about a second, because the AI's work is reused. If edges or hair get cut instead, move it towards Keep more.

For anything the slider can't fix, click Touch up under the result. Paint with Erase over leftover background, or with Restore over parts that were removed by mistake, then click Apply touch-ups. Your touch-ups are kept if you change the background colour or format afterwards.

Hair and fur are hard for every background remover. Here they come out soft and natural, though fine single hairs may be lost. For product photos on a white background, choose White and save as JPG.

Questions about removing backgrounds

Are my photos uploaded?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once and runs on your device. Your photos are never sent to a server.
Why does the first photo take longer?
The first time, your browser downloads the AI model (about 44 MB) and gets it ready. It's then kept by your browser, so later photos and visits start faster.
How long does it take?
In our tests on an ordinary laptop, a portrait of about 1 megapixel took around 7 to 10 seconds once the model was ready.
Some background is left around the subject. What can I do?
Move Removal strength towards Remove more and click Remove background again. The AI result is reused, so it takes about a second, and you can try a few settings. If patches still remain, click Touch up and paint over them with the Erase brush.
Part of the person or product was removed. Can I bring it back?
Yes. Click Touch up under the result, choose Restore, and paint over the missing part: the original picture comes back exactly where you paint. Undo takes back the last stroke, and Reset touch-ups removes them all.
Which formats keep the transparency?
PNG and WebP keep the background transparent. JPG can't be transparent, so it uses a background colour: white unless you choose another.
Is it free?
Yes. No sign-up, no watermark and no premium tier.
