How to make an Instagram grid

  1. Make the photo 3:4

The profile grid shows tall 3:4 tiles, so start with a 3:4 photo, such as 3240 × 4320 pixels. The image resizer does it with Crop to fill.

  2. Add it here

It opens split 3 × 3. For one or two rows, type 1 or 2 under Rows and click Apply grid.

  3. Download and post

Click Download all as ZIP. Post the tiles in reverse order, the last file first and the first file last, so the picture comes out the right way round.

Sizes for the profile grid

Instagram's profile grid shows each post as a 3:4 tile (measured on instagram.com, 18 October 2026), and its Help Centre says posts up to 1080 × 1440 pixels keep their shape (checked 21 October 2026). So each tile should be 3:4:

GridWhole photoPhoto sizeTiles
3 × 1 (one row)9:43240 × 14403 of 1080 × 1440
3 × 2 (two rows)9:83240 × 28806 of 1080 × 1440
3 × 33:43240 × 43209 of 1080 × 1440

Smaller photos work too, as long as the shape is right: a 1800 × 2400 photo gives nine tiles of 600 × 800.

Instagram grid questions

Why do my tiles look cropped on my profile?

They're probably not 3:4. Check each tile's size in the Regions list: in a 3 × 3 grid of a 3:4 photo, every tile is 3:4. A square photo gives square tiles, and the grid trims their sides.

In which order do I post the tiles?

In reverse. Your profile shows the newest post first, so post the last file (for example …_009_3c.jpg) first and the first file (…_001_1a.jpg) last.

Can I make a 3 × 2 grid or a single row?

Yes. Type the rows and columns you want and click Apply grid. Keep 3 columns, because the profile grid is 3 posts wide.

What about a panorama people can swipe?

That's a carousel: one post with several slides. Split the photo into 1 row of 3 columns and add the three tiles to one post, in order a, b, c.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is opened and split in your browser, on your device. See the privacy page.
